SUPER BOWL MONDAY!

FEBRUARY 11, 2025

Tuesday, February 11, 2025, 64 Degrees, 90% Humidity, W-SSW 9.2 mph

Thanks to us crossing the International Date Line a few days ago, Zuiderdam hosted a Super Bowl Party on Monday, Feb. 11 at 10:30 AM. Several friends jokingly asked if that meant we saw the game and results early, but it didn’t work that way. John told them that if he gave the results, it would throw the world off its axis. The game was shown on the big screen on the World Stage but was also available on the Special Events Channel on the TV in our cabin. After a quick pass-through for a “photo-op” for the Blog and to pick up some snacks, we headed back to our cabin for a private Super Bowl Party. That’s what we usually do when we’re at home – Super Bowl for Two! We’re most interested in the food and the commercials, although in the last couple of years the game has been exciting too. Not so much this year – I planned ahead and brought a Chiefs T-shirt to wear for the game; need I say more?! As we moved around the country during John’s career, we lived in several football cities – Buffalo, San Diego, and Kansas City. I’ve always supported the local teams because it was usually a big thing wherever I worked. One year, we gave everyone a box of “Flutie Flakes” for Christmas – remember him (before the Nugenix commercials)? So, we did have some ties to KC & it would have been neat to see them win a third Super Bowl, but I must admit, I’m probably more interested in Travis & Taylor!

So, we had great food (Menu follows), a game that didn’t go our way, and NO commercials. Not sure how/why, but our game was commercial-free – no Budweiser Clydesdale foal Jake, Lay’s “Little Farmer”, no NFL Flag 50 (I researched the best ads for the 2025 Super Bowl – and to watch later on YouTube. Nobody can beat the Clydesdale foal)! The photo doesn’t do the food offerings justice – it only shows part of the spread! Here’s a complete list:

Brisket sliced to order with Brioche rolls and slaw, BBQ Pork Sliders, Hot Dogs with frizzy fried onions, ketchup, and mustard on a poppyseed roll, chicken wings and corn on the cob, sausage and peppers, popcorn shrimp, individual boxes of nachos, and bags of freshly popped popcorn! There was a sheet cake for each team, and guests showed their team preference by the cake they selected.

Holland America has done a great job with the special events they have planned so far for the World Cruise—I can't wait to see what’s next!
